This novel is set in eighteenth-century Scotland and tells the story of David Balfour, who is an orphan. David is tricked by his uncle, who first tries to murder him and then arranges for him to be kidnapped. David escapes and meets Alan Stewart. Together they set off on an amazing adventure.
Kidnapped was written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886 and reflects his love of Scottish history. The story and some of the characters are based on historical fact.
Jenny isn’t happy to be spending her summer holiday on a small Scottish island with her grandfather. Even Alex, the young man who helps her grandfather, doesn’t exactly thrill her. But one night, there’s a terrible storm and a ship crashes into Shark Rock, which is near the island. The ship is smuggling uranium, and an adventure begins for Jenny and Alex as they follow the trail of the smugglers. Jenny discovers that life on a small Scottish can be exciting after all.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennet want to make good marriages for their daughters. This, however, is problematic in the society of nineteenth-century England because they are poor.
